The Mariners just hired Bill Bavasi as their new General Manager. All of the articles about the hiring rave about his building of the nucleus of the 2002 World Champion Angels.

But here is something pretty fucking funny. The only players the articles mention are one's the Angels drafted under Bavasi's tenure - drafted players being something to credit to a scouting department as much or more then a GM.

Does it mention Bavasi's aggressive pursuit and signing of the evil Mo Vaughn? Nope. Does it mention that Bavasi's father Buzzie singlehandedly destroyed the first budding championship contender in Anaheim? Nope.

I am quite happy that the Mariners have inherited this plague. The 2002 Champions were built on a scouted core (albeit one that Bavasi managed to not trade away, thanks for nothing Buzzard Breath) and some brilliant trades by Bill Stoneman. Mariners propaganda will continue to wax excitedly in love with itself and its choke-certain team, but Angel fans know that the stain of a Bavasi is a tattoo reading Born to Lose on the bicep of any team employing it.
