Latitude goers!
Hi, people going to Latitude. Despite this being in two weeks, I've still not organised transport to it for myself because I'm k-lame. I'll just book a coach ticket if I need to, but does anyone know of a spare space in a car from London that might be available? (Same question applies for Indietracks the weekend after. I think there's at least one person here going to that.) Ta x |

Baseball is no longer "The Greatest Game."
I am not talking about steroids, or even gambling. These kinds of scandals come and go, and we move on. But I am talking about such things as complete games and shut outs... Is a shut out no more than a useless yahoo statistic nowadays? Look at today, for example. Florida's Nolasco goes 8 innings, strikes out 12, gives up three hits and is leading 5 to 0. But they take him out after eight and give an inning to Nunez (of all people, since he's been their closer/stopper the past week). Nowadays teams carry 12 or even 13 pitchers. Used to be 11 max. I am not just some old fart complaining about how the game used to be. I just don't understand a move like in today's Florida game... Like I said, I guess a SHO is no longer a statistic that managers and general managers, and by default -- or not -- also pitchers just don't worry or care about. Somone said we can trace the "blame" (or at least the origin) for this on Tony La Russa, who allegedly introduced the "bring in a pitcher to face one batter" concept. Now we have a plethora of middle inning pitchers. And few decent starters in the whole darn league. And when or even when they have a great game, they get taken out after seven or eight innings. In a few years, it wouldnt surpise me if starters got yanked in the eighth with a no hitter or even perfect game going for them. |

I like they way that, after two weeks of the crowd on - oh god - Henman Hill not responding in any way to anything the commentators say, they still haven't twigged that they obviously don't get the commentary. |

Who thinks it can happen?
As of right now now, Albert Pujols is nine points shy of the National triple crown lead and 32 points shy of the major league triple crown lead. And you know what? I would love to see the first triple crown winner of my lifetime or that of anyone's who is younger than 42. Anyone think he can do it? |

Walk or Slam?
Pujols took a one-out, bases-loaded pitch to hit his 4th grand slam of the season. Cardinals trailed 3-0 to the Reds and after the slam took a 4-3 lead. When do you start walking a batter like him with the bases loaded when you have more than a one-run lead? Edit: Stats for the year with the bases loaded: 6-7, 4 grand slams, 20 RBIs (thanks cardinalfan06). |

Dean Valentin Slams MOCA - w/ Update UPDATE:In case former MOCA-trustee and L.A. contemporary art uber-collector Dean Valentine is not your FaceBook friend, check out what he just posted on FB: "Dean Valentine believes MOCA should have more respect for the truth. Phony PR and fake fund-raising numbers are not the way to a healthy museum." When asked by his FaceBook friends for more details, Mr. Valentine responded:"Because when you scrape away all the PR bull, the operating budget--which is the only one that counts--still has an $8 to $10m hole that has to be refilled yearly." |

With the obvious caveat that he may not be guilty, this guy doesn't sound like a master criminal, does he? "The Old Bailey heard he was carrying bomb parts when arrested at Lowestoft, Suffolk, for abusing a train conductor."Yup. When carrying bomb parts, what you want to do is draw the attention of authority to yourself, definitely. |

Bits from today's paper
I suspect the press date for this may have been before Thursday evening. They might still have edited the reference to Michael Jackson tickets out of the online version, not for reasons of taste but just because it's not that good an analogy any more. I'm sure Australia's a lovely place, but this doesn't exactly make me want to join the exodus. Nothing to do with any Australians, it's just that "they secured the points needed to move to Australia because his hairdresser wife, Jane, has an in-demand skills set." reminds me a little of the Golgafrinchan Ark. The Brits emigrating there sound a bit whiny too - waah, my hard work isn't recognised, waah, it rains sometimes. In fact, sorry about that Australia. |

That was a cracking thunderstorm wasn't it? I didn't see any hail, but reading about the big hailstones people were reporting reminded me of the time when I was about 14ish I think, and we genuinely had hailstones the size of golf balls. They were amazing - my mum was so excited by it she kept one in the freezer for ages. I don't really want to take my iPhone to either of the festivals I'm going to next month, but obviously, being a child of the connected generation I don't want to be cut off from the Matrix. Is there anything different about an iPhone sim apart from the fact that it says 'iPhone SIM' on it, or can I just stick it in the old phone I've got from last time I was on O2, assuming I can find it? Murray's playing well, isn't he? Although I don't think you can really argue that the challenge system is a bad thing, some of the players seem to be occasionally using it in a slightly naughty way, with hopeless challenges to create a slight delay when their opponent's got in a bit of a groove. Tsk, bad tennis players. |

For fvck's sake, the BBC. "Now, we're going to stop showing you tennis, and show you a behind the scenes feature about the royal box, then show you all the people who are sitting in it today. That's obviously better, isn't it you plebs." |

Baseballs stuck in ceilings.
I was watching the Angels-Diamondbacks game earlier, and one of the players hit a very high pop fly ball, which got me to thinking. What are the rules if a baseball is hit like that in an indoor stadium and the ball gets stuck in the ceiling? I've found some information on Tropicana field, but that's all stadium rules. Is there anything league wide about that situation? Or is it on a stadium by stadium basis? Thanks! |

Litany of fail
For the second time in less than a week, I've slept through a gig I was planning to go to. Gah. Rub. Instead, I've spent the last couple of hours looking at embarrassing photos from my teenage years when I was even more socially awkward than I am now. Yike. I have a big bit of cardboard covering the fireplace to stop the cats going up the chimney, and to make it look less like a big bit of cardboard I've been sticking photos on it. I've found very little to add tonight, although I have found one of my mum and dad that I think was taken on holiday in Barcelona, but he seems to be wearing a buttonhole for some reason, and I can't imagine why. I also found several of my mum that if I were to can and put on the internet, she would actually kill me. |

So according to Wikipedia there are no fewer than three Princes of Pop. Who will now take the crown?. Bear in mind that I'm trying to get the poll recognised as official, but I'm not sure who to apply to. Possibly the Archbishop of Canterbury of Pop, but the page doesn't say who that is. Yes, it's sad, and a terrible tragedy for his children, family and friends, just as it is when anyone dies. Is anyone else shocked though at the extent of the coverage? BBC News this morning - yeah, them again - were solemny declaring that "The King Of Pop has died." as if he was a real king, which he wasn't any more than Dr Fox is a real doctor. I'm also feeling slightly - to cheapen the word a little - oppressed by the underlying assumption that everyone in the world was unquestionably a huge fan of his music when I have never owned any of it, and never wanted to, finding it mostly overblown and tedious. That's not just me either, is it? I'm intrigued to know what happens next with regard to all the tickets that were touted on eBay. I'd guess that the people who bought them on eBay are unlucky losers. It's an interesting legal situation - what is the contract between eBay buyer and seller? Is the obligation on the seller to provide the buyer with a Michael Jackson show (as it was in the original deal between promoter and eBay seller, under which someone 1 is now entitled to get the original price (leaving aside the issue of booking fees, which will have themselves have been vast and left the people who just bought tickets because they wanted to see the shows badly out of pocket)) or is the seller simply reasssigning his part of the original deal to the buyer. Speaking as not a lawyer, I would question if the seller is allowed to do that without the consent of the promoter, so possibly the first option is true, which suggests that my original guess would be wrong. What I predict is that some lawyers will get a bit richer out of this. 1God knows how this will work. Will ticket holders have to surrender the physical tickets to get a refund, or will TicketBastard just automatically refund everyone's money? If the latter, does that point extra to the eBay seller having to refund the buyer's money? |

J+D started 10 years ago today!
Wow...10 years ago today, was one of the happiest days of my life because it was the day Jeff asked me to be his girlfriend! Since then we have been on this roller coaster of life together. A lot has happened in 10 years, we've lost jobs, got married, buried a parent, bought a town home, adopted a dog, traveled to some of our favorite places, shared many good glasses of wine and started a business together . The list goes on! We share this wonderful passion for our life together, family, friends & photography. Through it all we have sat in the same coaster car and held on to each other whether we were laughing, screaming or crying. It all started as a girlfriend, fiance, and now wife + business partner and there is no one else in the world I would want to share this ride with. Looking forward to many more happy years. I love ya Jeff...today, tomorrow and forever! Cheers my love! -D ( Read more... ) |

A Huge Step in Baseball Broadcasting
As a Sox fan, most home games on on NESN, a broadcast company. I watch one show on broadcast TV that's ending next year anyway. The only other reason I am paying for cable TV is for Sox games. There are many others stuck in the same situation amongst other fan bases. Could we finally be getting some traction? The basic gist is that you'll soon be able to watch Yankee games on MLB.tv in-market. That means that a Yankee fan living in NYC can subscribe to this and get every Yankee game, short of ESPN and Fox broadcasts (And a decent HD antenna could get you the Fox ones). If this ends up being announced for NESN shortly, I'll be dropping my cable to simply internet on its own. $100 for a full season sure as hell beats what I'm paying in cable bills. |

Tanya + Craig...Just Because!
The perfectionist in me, strikes again! Jeff and I are always coming up with new ideas to always strive for the next step. We feel it is important to keep growing in both our personal and business life, so we tend to bounce ideas off each other which usually start me saying, "Hey babe" and Jeff goes..."Yessssssss"! I am sure he is totally wondering what is she going to come up with now!!! Recently, you may have noticed that we added a splash page to the intro of our site. If you haven't seen it yet, please go to the website and check it out. You don't want to miss it! We were so happy to add this because it really shows a "splash" of what we do! The images are some of our favorites, and we wanted to implement what we are about which is Simple + Modern + Casual and how we portray this in our photography. With the fabulous flash design from Tanya Ahedo at Design Action Studios, our goal was accomplished. She took our vision and turned it into a reality! Tanya has a great personality, and is very easy to work with, so the Sipper's clicked with her right away! Since then, we have had the opportunity to shoot Tanya. She wanted some photos for fun, so we met up with her and Craig, her fabulous fiance, and rocked it! The two shared some amazing moments. We always encourage our clients to just have fun, and so they did. As Tanya quoted on all the fun "That is how we roll"! I have to say...we just loved hanging out with them, as you will see in the following moments. Thanks again Tanya for your fabulous design! Enjoy- J+D

Indie
Are you, like me, a fan of the Lucksmiths who was disappointed to find that their last ever London show is on the same night as the Mystery Fax Machine Karaoke which you have tickets for (or are possibly playing in)? Well, not to worry, because there's now a show the night before at The Luminaire. Among the supports are The Chemistry Experiment, one of whom is fountainhead who never seems to post any more. I met them once at a party at my friend Ian's house - Ian was in Savoy Grand at the time, who were big on the Nottingham indie scene and released a single on Pickled Egg. Ah, indie. The supports at the big show the next night are better - Daniel Kitson and Allo Darlin', who I pimped here earlier in the week but if you can't make that one, you should come to this one. Or even if you can, but you're such a fan of the Lucksmiths you want to see them twice more before you die. Or before they inevitably reform in 2015. You can get tickets here. Only £6! |

So, I'm logging the Tigers/Cubs game and I'm noticing.. through 7 innings, 7 different players made the third out on both teams. Do they have a stat for that? I know they have things like Average with 2 outs, but what about just making the third out? |
